Waiting for test results!!

None really, maybe a little bloating and abdominal pain. This is the scary thing about ovarian cancer; few women have any symptoms at all.

I’ve had 3 surgeries total. The 1st was laproscopic when they discovered I didn’t have endometriosis, what they originally thought I had. That’s when they discovered that the 2 huge tumors were either cancerous or pre-cancerous. On the 2nd surgery they removed the 2 tumors and managed to save my ovaries, but the patholgy sent to Johns Hopkins came back showing a 6 mm invasive carcinoma in my right ovary, and the left ovary had a micro-invasive tumor. On January 29th, 2007, I had a total ovarian hysterectomy.

Paclitaxel(Taxol)/Carboplatin(Paraplatin) combination, intravenous, 4 treatments total, 3 weeks apart. My first treatment was Oct. 17th. The side effects weren’t been too horrible. Days 3-6 I felt really bad, but I never vomited! I just felt VERY weak, and VERY sick. I was so pale I scared myself in the mirror, and sometimes I felt so bad I couldn’t even talk. I had HORRIBLE constipation like never before, and I still have heartburn, which I never got before.

Bio-identical HRT in the form of transdermal creams: includes Bi-estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone…started March 2007.

No side effects to speak of so far! I highly recommend seeing a HRT specialist to look into bio-identical HRT. After reading “What your doctor may not tell you about menopause” I refuse to go on the “conventional” synthetic hormones most doctors prescribe.

Hello everyone!

As many of you already know, my wonderful and talented husband Irvin is a commercial, wedding, and artistic photographer. He’s been working on this great idea he had recently, where he will take pictures of cancer survivors and show the beautiful side of cancer. He may even add some audio interviews to it, or some other way to give a little info about the survivors and allow them to tell their story.

Anyway, as always, I’m the test “model”! Really I’m lucky that Irvin takes such amazing photos and really knows how to make people beautiful in his pictures.

So here’s the first of what may turn out to be a series. He’s already received interest from some local magazines, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

I’m soooo glad that Irvin is seeing the brighter sides of all this as well; we’re both doing so well at staying positive, learning from this, and getting stronger and more appreciative of the little things and life in general. My ob/gyn, whom I love, told me the other day that she thinks cancer survivors go one way or the other. Cancer either makes them angry and bitter, or it gives them a new perspective on life and makes them stonger. Maybe someday we’ll be better able to understand this disease and what it does to people physically and emotionally, and be better equipped to help them. Hopefully this photography series is a start!

Just found this…check it out, people have so much more potential than they realize.

Tanya, this has to be one of the best images I have seen this year! It depicts the beauty of both the subject and photographer. I have the pleasure of calling Irvin a friend for the past 5 years now and always supported his talent and love for the art of photography. I know his happiness transcended to a special person in his life and the day you two were married fueled even more a passionate person in Irvin.

When Irvin shared with me what you two are going through, my feelings went into overload mode. But what I share with Irvin, I share with you, the only kind of people that are put in these situations are those strong enough to survive them. I am so proud of you two turing what most of us would call a tragedy into an empowering venture for others to support and become aware of. When I first met you, I saw the beauty Irvin was close to both inside and out. This latest portrait of you depicts the strong beauty you posses. Again, so proud of your strength, proud of Irvin and thank you two for taking the positive position in helping others become aware.

God Bless.

Byron

Wow Ta!

What an amazing photo and what a wonderful idea to contrast beauty with sickness and with that show hope and triumph. I am so looking forward to seeing you and everybody on Thursday! Soon!

Love,
Peter

Tanya – This is such an amazing photo. I can’t wait to see others. What a wonderful way to raise cancer awareness, through photography. Thanks so much for sharing your story and photos!

Amazing photo. I really wish I knew Irvin when I was going through chemo.

This will all make you stronger.

So beautiful! I think Irvin’s concept is wonderful. A great way to celebrate someone’s life.

Love, Beth
