Waiting for test results!!

None really, maybe a little bloating and abdominal pain. This is the scary thing about ovarian cancer; few women have any symptoms at all.

I’ve had 3 surgeries total. The 1st was laproscopic when they discovered I didn’t have endometriosis, what they originally thought I had. That’s when they discovered that the 2 huge tumors were either cancerous or pre-cancerous. On the 2nd surgery they removed the 2 tumors and managed to save my ovaries, but the patholgy sent to Johns Hopkins came back showing a 6 mm invasive carcinoma in my right ovary, and the left ovary had a micro-invasive tumor. On January 29th, 2007, I had a total ovarian hysterectomy.

Paclitaxel(Taxol)/Carboplatin(Paraplatin) combination, intravenous, 4 treatments total, 3 weeks apart. My first treatment was Oct. 17th. The side effects weren’t been too horrible. Days 3-6 I felt really bad, but I never vomited! I just felt VERY weak, and VERY sick. I was so pale I scared myself in the mirror, and sometimes I felt so bad I couldn’t even talk. I had HORRIBLE constipation like never before, and I still have heartburn, which I never got before.

Bio-identical HRT in the form of transdermal creams: includes Bi-estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone…started March 2007.

No side effects to speak of so far! I highly recommend seeing a HRT specialist to look into bio-identical HRT. After reading “What your doctor may not tell you about menopause” I refuse to go on the “conventional” synthetic hormones most doctors prescribe.

Itchy head, but still feel great!Views: 140

So I had my weekly bloodwork done yesterday and, as always, my blood counts are within normal range! What positive reinforcement for me to know that my body is bouncing back so quickly after feeling so crummy. I’ve even avoided catching pink-eye from my poor mom…and she’s going to kill me for writing that!

But of course there has to be something wrong! My head itches so much, I’m worse than our dog who can’t stop scratching from his skin allergies. Someone’s going to have to tape oven-mits on my hands. I’ve tried every product, natural and not, and nothing is really working. I guess I’ll have to call the doc. It’s really pretty; red, itchy bumbs all over, wish you could see it…

So today my mom and I spoiled ourselves and had an hour massage followed by an herbal body wrap. Aaahhhhh… I guess when you have cancer (or your daughter does) you have an excuse, huh? Some very dear friends and family members of ours (you know who you are!) sent us “spoil yourself” money and we did just that! Somehow after spending $200 a month on co-payments and prescriptions things like that seem minimal. You’d think the insurance company wouldn’t mind kicking in for a massage once in a while considering EACH of my chemo treatments is $6000! Yikes.

So I’m on to my 2 weeks of feeling pretty good! Just in time for thanksgiving! My wonderful brother Peter is flying in from Baltimore for 4 days despite his busy life as genius at Johns Hopkins graduate school…love you Pete. And then for xmas, Pete is flying out AGAIN, as well my other genius sibling, Dr. La, coming out from Maine with her new husband Christian. Yeah! We’re going to have xmas in the desert!
ps-Eric, I think you’re a genius as well… And we wish you could be here for xmas but may I remind you that you have a toddler and a wife who’s ready to burst with #2!)

Tanya – such great news. I am so glad you are feel good and your family is rallying around you.

Hooray for feeling good!

Definately tell the doctor about the itchy skin, it could be a reaction to one of the drugs… but more than likely it is just itchy. I remember my head being itchy… and at one point I had a few bumps on it too… but I don’t remember it lasting too long.

Glad your blood has behaved. That is EXCELLENT news.

I hope this message is not edited and it gets printed this time. The caveman will try to remain civil, hu hu hu. Ok so your mom has pink eye hu. I could just picture you like Eros that is funny but I’m sure it’s not for you. It is sooo funny I think I have sympathy scratch, before I read this last night I was telling my wife I had this itch all over including my head uncontrollable. No I don’t have cooties. Say hi to your husband, ask him why I call him Winnie the Poos left flange. juar juar. I will ask my mom for a remedy for itching, she is part witch I mean that in the best of ways. She’ll probably say to apply Aloe vera, get Irvin to cut an Aloe vera plant and apply, well don’t try that until I check with the Mother. You tried calamine off-course!. See you guys on tuesday. Love Alex. If you have to edit a little but don’t trow the whole message away this time, ha ha ha.

Dear Tanya, thanks for your great blog. Bald is definitely beautiful on you! I wish it looked that good on me, but I keep seeing the young Lex Luthor in the mirror. Best wishes to you; get well soon and stay well! —Philip.
