Waiting for test results!!

None really, maybe a little bloating and abdominal pain. This is the scary thing about ovarian cancer; few women have any symptoms at all.

I’ve had 3 surgeries total. The 1st was laproscopic when they discovered I didn’t have endometriosis, what they originally thought I had. That’s when they discovered that the 2 huge tumors were either cancerous or pre-cancerous. On the 2nd surgery they removed the 2 tumors and managed to save my ovaries, but the patholgy sent to Johns Hopkins came back showing a 6 mm invasive carcinoma in my right ovary, and the left ovary had a micro-invasive tumor. On January 29th, 2007, I had a total ovarian hysterectomy.

Paclitaxel(Taxol)/Carboplatin(Paraplatin) combination, intravenous, 4 treatments total, 3 weeks apart. My first treatment was Oct. 17th. The side effects weren’t been too horrible. Days 3-6 I felt really bad, but I never vomited! I just felt VERY weak, and VERY sick. I was so pale I scared myself in the mirror, and sometimes I felt so bad I couldn’t even talk. I had HORRIBLE constipation like never before, and I still have heartburn, which I never got before.

Bio-identical HRT in the form of transdermal creams: includes Bi-estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone…started March 2007.

No side effects to speak of so far! I highly recommend seeing a HRT specialist to look into bio-identical HRT. After reading “What your doctor may not tell you about menopause” I refuse to go on the “conventional” synthetic hormones most doctors prescribe.

Good morning!Views: 112

Well, I’m sipping coffee this morning, which is a very good sign. I never want coffee when I’m feeling sick. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed, maybe I’m going to get off easy this time! Yesterday wasn’t too horrible; I’ve found that if I can just sleep excessive amounts things are a lot easier. Umm, 13 hours of sleep last night…

Just a run down of what I’m going through now…

Numb fingertips (neuropathy). I guess some people get it all over, especially in their feet, so I’m lucky. Last time it went away in a week or so. Makes typing a challenge!

I have a horrible rash on my bald head, I think it’s razor burn…itches like hell.

Not to give too much information, but I can’t poop.

Night sweats. Uggh. I’m afraid this means my ovaries may have already been affected by the chemo. Chemo can throw you into early menopause; even though they’ll be removed in a few months anyway I was hoping to avoid this. I’ll see my ob/gyn on tues to talk about it.

Still, I feel like I’m one of the lucky ones. Never barfed! Today mom is trying to tempt me with a pedicure to get me out of the house. Gotta love moms! Last night she made us a wonderful dinner and even fed the dogs. : )

Glad you are feeling well enough for coffee. Funny that is one of my signs on how I am feeling too. You are lucky to have your mom there taking care of you and spoiling you. go for the pedi!

Hey Tanya, good job with the 13 hours, you deserve every minute of that rest! We are glad to hear things are going so well and of course, that your mom already got into town. Isn’t it great having moms around??? How good is she with those amazing New England clam chowders?? If I find a chance to go visit, I’ll take care of a Paella for you.
By the way, you just made me trip out for a second with that hungry hummingbirds story, cool thought, great imagination, keep them coming!
Whatever you do with that coffee, please make sure your husband doesn’t get anywhere near it, you know how he gets after a couple of cups, he just can’t stop talking! hahaha….. Lots of love from Florida.

The night sweats might not be from damage to your ovaries. It might just be night sweats. I was able to keep one ovary and actually had a period every month the entire time I was on chemo.

Also, it is very good that you aren’t getting sick. I only got sick once but that was after my fifth and I was taking pain meds to help with the bone pain. I only got bone pain because my white blood cells tanked. They gave me shots… causing my body to produce more. White blood cells are produced in bone marrow. That caused some pain.

Like you, I also slept as much as possible on my bad days. Ambien helped.

Good luck. You’ll get through all four of these treatments without throwing up. Soon the whole thing will be very far behind you.
