Waiting for test results!!

None really, maybe a little bloating and abdominal pain. This is the scary thing about ovarian cancer; few women have any symptoms at all.

I’ve had 3 surgeries total. The 1st was laproscopic when they discovered I didn’t have endometriosis, what they originally thought I had. That’s when they discovered that the 2 huge tumors were either cancerous or pre-cancerous. On the 2nd surgery they removed the 2 tumors and managed to save my ovaries, but the patholgy sent to Johns Hopkins came back showing a 6 mm invasive carcinoma in my right ovary, and the left ovary had a micro-invasive tumor. On January 29th, 2007, I had a total ovarian hysterectomy.

Paclitaxel(Taxol)/Carboplatin(Paraplatin) combination, intravenous, 4 treatments total, 3 weeks apart. My first treatment was Oct. 17th. The side effects weren’t been too horrible. Days 3-6 I felt really bad, but I never vomited! I just felt VERY weak, and VERY sick. I was so pale I scared myself in the mirror, and sometimes I felt so bad I couldn’t even talk. I had HORRIBLE constipation like never before, and I still have heartburn, which I never got before.

Bio-identical HRT in the form of transdermal creams: includes Bi-estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone…started March 2007.

No side effects to speak of so far! I highly recommend seeing a HRT specialist to look into bio-identical HRT. After reading “What your doctor may not tell you about menopause” I refuse to go on the “conventional” synthetic hormones most doctors prescribe.

Bald is beautiful!Views: 135

Take that, falling out hair!

So this morning I woke up and just knew it was time. In the shower my hair was coming out in globs, and it felt dead and dry. So I woke Irvin up and said it was time and I was sure I was ready to shave my head. We made it fun, and Irvin enjoyed singing “It’s been 7 hours and 15 days…since you took “my hair” away from me…) Ha, ha. 3 razor blades and 2 hours later…

I’m not sad, not one bit. Crap, it’s hair! It will grow back! Part of me feels like, ok, now I know the drugs are working. The people at the american cancer society have been great; hooked me up with 2 free, human hair wigs.

That is a beautiful photo Tanya!

Damn girl! I wish MY ball head was as beautiful as yours. Man, it is funny because you would think that by someone loosing all their hair, that person will be physically unrecognizable, a whole new individual. But I am looking at a photo of you guys on your wedding day, that we have by our computer, at the same time that I am looking at you now and it is you, totally you, this confirms that your persona is found behind those beautiful eyes and for sure not under the hair.

By the way, with the wig you look great but you don’t need it, without it you look gorgeous.

Great photo… it looks as if you were married to an almost halfway decent photographer. Irvin, I cannot believe what a good shaving job you did, or…did you Photoshop all those cuts out? I mean….you cannot fool me, I have seen you shave yourself before.

Love you guys!

You’re my hero! Tanya, you look B E A U T I F U L my dear! No doubt about it. I am so very impressed with your strength and bravery. You and Irvin are both such wonderful people, I hope so much that after all this passes, only happy/great things come your way. Stay strong and positive and know you have a whole family here in Florida in your corner!

Tanya, I did not shave my head when my hair stated to fall out and boy do I regret it. By the end of my treatment I had something that looked more like feathers than hair. And then when it started to grow back, I had these strange patches of chemo hair with my new hair. Incidentally, you look so feminine with your head shaved. It is as if removing the hair makes your already beautiful eyes look even prettier and your delicate features more pronounced. I wish I had done what you did—good job!

Kick ass Ta!
That is one nice head you have there! It really brings out your ears, too!
Love,
Peter

Natalie Portman’s got nothing on you, and Irvin’s a lot better than “V” (or Hugo Weaving, for that matter). You make bald truly beautiful. You look great!
Love, Beth

Tanya, you look truly gorgeous!

You look absolutely beautiful. I tattooed my head to decorate it because I felt naked. You look great totally bald. Beautiful. Really.
